Celebrate Communities: Saturday, October 18th

One of our partners, NYC Food + Fitness, is offering guided bus tours visiting community gardens and organizations doing food justice work in Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. The tours end with a free celebration of local food on Randall’s Island. Go to www.nycfoodandfitness for more information.

Milk-n-Honey at Amherst was a huge success!

The company just returned from a week-long engagement at beautiful Amherst, Massachusetts, where audiences outside of New York were for the first time invited to experience Milk-n-Honey and the After Show Cafe. We were extremely gratified by the extent to which the crowds engaged in the post-show discussions, and by their highly enthusiastic response to the play itself.

Stay tuned for upcoming national tour info!

Upcoming Youth Workshops

LightBox teaching artists will be facilitating Youth Workshops over the next couple of months with the Lower Eastside Girls Club, Childrens Aid Society, Brooklyn College Community Partnership, and the NYC Mission Society.

We’re working to raise $10k in individual contributions to help implement the workshops and to keep costs down for under-financed schools. Click “DONATE” at the bottom of the page to help out.

Schools, Food, and Community Conference 2008

LightBox will be presenting at the 2008 Baum Forum Schools, Food, and Community Conference on April 11-12th at the Columbia University Teachers College. We’ll be sharing information about our Youth Workshop Series, the LightBox Approach, and Milk-N-Honey, our original play about the politics and pleasures of eating.

LightBox is starting something new with the Food Theater Project:

We have created the Youth Workshop Series to raise food awareness in teens through a hands-on theater arts curriculum. The pilot workshop is currently underway at Jane Addams High School in the Bronx, through our partnership with Urban Health Plan.
